Barista & Front of House - 8-16 hours per week
About Us
Cycle Culture is an indoor cycling/spinning studio, coffeehouse and plant shop in Tooting Bec, SW17. Started by husband and wife, Paul and Mili Saini, the aim of Cycle Culture is to offer a high end experience to its members and community. A great deal of attention has been given to the cycling studio and coffeehouse to create two distinct yet complementary spaces with significant attention to aesthetics, detail and functionality.
Our coffeehouse may share a roof with our cycling studio but it truly stands alone. Intended to serve our cycling members as well as the general community, our Scandi inspired coffeehouse boasts a modern and clean aesthetic, embracing the concept of lagom (google it!). We have partnered with Allpress Espresso because the team and people there are downright awesome and we love their coffee. The coffeehouse has a brand new coffee kit from La Marzocco and Victoria Arduino and has been customised to match the space.
Our cycling studio boasts top of the range bikes, air control, sound and more. The aim was to create a cycling room nothing short of an experience. More often than not, studios cut corners in developing their cycling room but we refused to do anything less than our best. We are privileged to be partnered with Schwinn Indoor Cycling and Motosumo to help create one of the best cycling offerings in London.
Our plant shop stocks a wide range of beautiful, easy to care for plants. We have a fantastic plant partner that has has been in the industry for 30+ years.
Bottom line, we are truly proud of our space and are confident you would find it to be a fantastic working environment. Our team often tells us that our space is the nicest they've worked.
About Our Family
Cycle Culture is a family business at heart and our team is our family. We believe that a happy team will be the key to our success and for that reason we will always have their best interests at heart. Our headcount will remain relatively small as we believe in quality over quantity. The goal was to build a team of individuals that have a strong work ethic and genuinely enjoy working with one another to create a supportive, positive and happy work environment.
The Ideal Candidate
So this is a rather unique opportunity to have several different roles under one job title. Front of House helps support our cycling customers and assists customers with our plant shop. The Barista creates outstanding coffee, shakes, etc with great attention to detail. The person most suited for this job would ideally have a strong and genuine love for cycling, exercise and overall wellbeing. Similarly they should have a passion for coffee, plants and customer service.
At the current time, we are only considering people with coffee experience and basic food preparation skills. Latte art is a must for the role and the candidate will have the full support from our Head Barista and our coffee partner to further develop their skills.
At the heart of it, our staff is the face of the company, and having good interpersonal skills will be crucial. The candidate should be confident, enthusiastic and approachable with a great personality…what some would call a people person.
Aside from the normal job requirements about attention to detail, great work ethic, etc., etc., we really are looking for someone reliable that we can trust to look after our customers without being micromanaged. The candidate should be able to deal with everyday pressures that come along with the role, while aiming to provide the best possible customer service. They should be knowledgeable about the products they are selling and have a good understanding of how to resolve most issues that normally occur with day to day tasks.
Most of all, they should be looking for a home. It’s no secret that both Front of House and Baristas hop from place to place. We are looking for someone that wants a home with consistent part-time hours in a fantastic work environment with great people that support them. If you think you’ll leave after a few months, this is not the role for you and we wish you the best of luck in finding something else suitable.
Responsibilities
The Front of House will be responsible a number of things to keep the business running and ultimately act as the deputy to the manager, Mili Saini. This includes greeting/assisting all customers, assisting customers in our plant shop, checking in cycling customers as they arrive and ensuring the class and members all move along on schedule, some light maintenance work, and various ad-hoc tasks when and as they become necessary.
The Barista role is pretty simple: deliver high quality coffee and do it consistently with great customer service. Along the way the going will get tough and you’ll be responsible to find a way through while bravely wearing a smile. We serve artisan coffee and as such are looking for individuals with relevant experience including latte art.
The great thing with this job is you will be able to allocate your hours to both roles to help keep things diverse from day to day. It’s tough to do either of these roles solely for a long shift so having the ability to do both makes this an interesting opportunity.
Job Perks
A great work environment and awesome colleagues aren’t enough for you!? That’s okay as we plan to look after our team as best we can. We are a relatively new company and brand and this area will develop and grow as we do. From launch, the candidate will have unlimited training and support from Allpress Espresso as well as our Head Barista. They will also have discounts, etc. on coffeehouse goods and free cycling classes in our cycling studio where space is available (normally £145/month!). We will also establish regular team outings because team building is very important to us.
One Last Thing…
We plan to take care of our family as we grow. The pay rate we show here is the starting rate and our aim is to take care of our own. We believe if we have our team’s interests aligned with ours that this will be a worthwhile opportunity for everyone.
Thanks for reading our post. Please give us a shout if you really believe this is a strong fit for you. If not, then best of luck with your job search!
