Summary

We are looking for a talented Protocol Engineer (Rust) to join our team and help shape the future of Midnight’s products and technology. Midnight is a regulatory-friendly data protection-based blockchain that safeguards sensitive commercial and personal data, protecting fundamental freedoms of association, commerce, and expression for developers, companies, and individuals. Midnight utilizes a novel data protection-first programming model and ZK proofs while operating as a Cardano sidechain.

As a Protocol Engineer (Rust) at Midnight, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the core systems that power our blockchain platform. You will work closely with our development team to build high-performance systems that can handle large-scale transaction processing, and ensure the security and integrity of our platform.

Duties

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance systems in Rust to power our blockchain platform.
• Contribute to the overall architecture and design of the blockchain platform, ensuring efficiency, security, and compatibility with other components.
• Collaborate with our development team to ensure seamless integration of systems and features.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure system reliability and correctness.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to technical discussions to continuously improve the quality of our systems.
• Keep up to date with the latest developments in Rust and blockchain technology, and apply them to improve our platform.

Requirements

Key Competencies

• Strong proficiency in Rust programming language and its ecosystem, including libraries and tools
• Experience in developing and maintaining high-performance, low-latency systems that can handle large-scale transaction processing
• Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals, including algorithms, data structures, and concurrency
• A high attention to detail, delivering designs and code that are suitable for the high demands of continued operation and security at scale
• Knowledge of blockchain technology and its core concepts, such as consensus mechanisms, cryptography, and smart contracts
• Understanding of distributed systems and networking protocols, including TCP/IP, HTTP, and WebSockets
• Proficiency in writing and maintaining unit and integration tests to ensure system reliability and correctness
• Familiarity with version control systems, such as Git, and software development best practices, such as Agile methodologies

Education / Experience

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
• Strong proficiency in Rust programming language, with practical experience in designing and implementing complex software systems
• Experience in developing and maintaining high-performance systems in Rust
• Familiarity with cryptographic principles and libraries used in blockchain protocols, such as elliptic curve cryptography, hashing algorithms, and Merkle trees would be a plus
• Experience measuring and tuning the performance of distributed systems
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues independently or in a team environment
