Advanced Mechatronic Engineering Apprentice

Science and Technology Facilities Council

Salary: £11,925 per annum rising incrementally to £18,402 in the fourth year

Hours: Full time (37 hours per week)

Contract Type: Fixed Term for 4 years

Location: Science and Technology Facilities Council, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory Harwell, Oxfordshire

The Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) has over 25 years’ experience in providing engineering apprenticeships and is an excellent training ground to equip individuals with relevant skills and experience in mechanical engineering. We offer a competitive salary that increases annually, 4 years supervised training and additional core skills development.

We are recruiting Level 3 Engineering Technician – Mechatronic pathway Apprentices to join us at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Oxfordshire on an electrical pathway.

Through the training provider, Newbury College, you will undertake a Level 3 Engineering Technician – Mechatronics pathway apprenticeship standard which will include:

  • Fully recognised apprenticeship qualification – Level 3 Engineering Technician – Mechatronic pathway
  • On-the-job competency training
  • Theoretical knowledge

You will be required to attend Newbury College on a day release basis as part of your training; you must therefore be willing and able to travel independently. Excess travel costs will be covered.

Apprentices will gain first-hand experience working as part of a professional team, supported by theoretical and practical learning. You will have the opportunity to make an impact early on in your role, where you’ll also learn the specialist skills tailored to the knowledge, skills and behaviours

  • ISIS - ISIS is a world-leading neutron & muon source. The neutron and muon instruments give unique insights into the properties of materials on the atomic scale. ​
  • Technology - The design and development of new instrumentation to equip our scientific experiments with imagers and data analysis

In order to apply for the role, we are looking for the following:

Essential:

  • Achieved or predicted to achieve 5 GCSE passes at Grade C/4 or above including Maths, English and a STEM subject by September 2023 (or equivalent qualifications)
  • A strong and demonstrable interest in engineering
  • Demonstrates a high level of interest and enthusiasm about the role
  • Ability to work in a flexible and challenging environment
  • Self-motivated; willing to undertake the work required with the training provider and in the workplace
  • Able to work as part of team
  • Ability to work using own initiative and follow instructions

Desirable:

  • Demonstrable interest in practical subjects and activities.
