What you’ll be doing

This is a key role in the Hachette Distribution management team, running and reporting the accounting and finances to necessary stakeholders of a growing division within Hachette UK. This role also has ownership of the HUKD trust and client accounting. The role has the assistant management accountant and HUKD trust accountant reporting into it and will be responsible for leading and developing the team.


Tasks involved in the role include:

  • Monthly production of divisional management accounts, relevant KPI’s and commentary
  • Management of all divisions accounting, including prepayments, accruals, sales raising, PO’s reconciliation, invoice routings for approvals to accounts payable
  • Production and understanding of individual client profitability
  • Production of annual reforecast and budgeting process (2 iterations)
  • Reporting of weekly sales, profit estimates, head counts and site operational KPI’s
  • Regular attendance at daily site management meeting to understand / raise any operational concerns
  • Identify and implement process improvements within the accounts department
  • Identify and report any cost saving initiatives or income opportunities for the division
  • Understanding of all accounting aspects affecting the HUKD sales ledger and trust accounts for group and third party clients
  • Line management of two staff, undertaking regular 1-2-1’s, performance reviews, goal setting and development
Who we are looking for
  • Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA) with minimum 5 years experience
  • Experience of leading and developing a team where differences are encouraged, valued and supported
  • Good knowledge of VAT and International VAT
  • Ability to understand complex accounting situations
  • A good communicator with the ability to prioritise and build strong relationships across multiple functions/businesses at all levels
  • Flexible approach and able to adapt to change
  • Workload co-ordination and ability to plan and prioritise to meet strict deadlines
  • Able to facilitate delivery through others and delegate appropriately
  • Takes accountability to complete tasks
  • Able to use own initiative and proactively identify areas for improvement
  • Able to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Excellent Excel skills (advanced level)
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Acts as a role model in championing our company mission and pillars
