Job overview

Gynaecology consists of surgical & acute pathways and involves Oncology (of which we are a tertiary referral centre), Urogynae, Early pregnancy, general Gynae, Community Gynae & Complications of MESH and sits within the Reproductive Health Directorate as part of the Family Health Division

The Matron will provide strong clinical leadership within the Services and be highly visible and accessible to patients. Leading by example he/she will drive up standards of clinical care and have the authority to get the essential components of care right for patients – clean wards and departments, quality care, ensuring patients are treated with dignity and respect, resolving problems for patients and relatives and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout the services.

In undertaking the duties for this post the post holder must comply with the NMC – ‘The Code’.

The post holder will be based between City Hospital and the Queens Medical Centre and will be expected to participate in a trust wide matron rota that ensures there is senior professional leadership for the nursing workforce 7 days per week.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Lead Nurse for Reproductive Services and the Divisional Leadership Team the post holder will have operational responsibility for ensuring the delivery of clinical quality standards, patient safety and the overall patient experience in the division, providing professional leadership, advice and support for the Division to ensure there is consistency of practice, high standards of care with a strong patient safety focus.

Essential criteria

  • Qualified Registered Nurse
  • First degree or equivalent in health related subject
  • ENB 998 or equivalent teaching course
  • Management qualification or relevant experience

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Experience of leading and delivering programmes of change within an acute NHS setting.
  • Significant post registration experience including management and leadership experience
  • Able to provide specialised advice concerning patient care
  • Knowledge of budgets/financial control

Communication & Relationship Skills

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
