We have an exciting opportunity at RSK for a Principal Geo-Environmental Engineer to join Leap Environmental in Dorking, Goudhurst or Burgess Hill.

Working alongside and being supported by an experienced team, you will be responsible for growing the LEAP regional presence. You will get involved with a wide variety of geo-environmental projects including investigations in relation to commercial and residential development, energy infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, environmental permitting and Part IIA. Key clients include residential developers, Tier 1 contractors, and local authorities.

LEAP has already achieved a lot in a short time growing into one of the principal site investigation and consultancy firms currently operating in the south east, and is now embarking on the next exciting phase of the business, becoming part of the RSK Group and taking advantage of the wider market and technical opportunities this brings. LEAP is actively involved in a number of groundbreaking initiatives involving sustainability and contaminated land and its employees are active committee or working party group members of SoBRA, Geol Soc and AGS.

Responsibilities:

A Principal grade Consultant/Engineer, who will report directly to one of the two Associate Directors, is expected to take the lead on a number of projects and to be a technical specialist in their chosen field. You will be expected to advise our current client contacts as well as making the most of business development opportunities to promote LEAP and create potential leads. Allied to this, as a principal grade member of the team you will be expected to lead or assist in the delivery of geo-environmental projects and will therefore be able to demonstrate strong technical, commercial and project management capabilities. It is expected that employees working at this grade will have a keen project finance awareness, be client facing, self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.Whilst a large proportion of the work will be directed from the office at which you are located, there is a good deal of inter region work and you will also be required to work with and provide support to the other regional offices. As a technical specialist you will also be expected to input into LEAP’s and the wider RSK Group’s technical expertise, ensuring the business remains at the cutting edge of geo-environmental consultancy.

You will be required to carry out all or some of the following tasks:

  • Liaise with and manage clients, prepare tenders and fee proposals
  • Promote LEAP and the RSK Group to your existing contacts, develop client relations and assist the Associate Director in business development
  • Organise and manage projects calling on specialist input from other in-house Principal Engineers or retained Consultants for non-standard or more complex issues.
  • Plan and organise a team undertaking field work/site investigations, allocating LEAP in-house resources and external sub-contractors as appropriate.
  • Compile Risk and Method Statements for field work/site investigations, for approval by the company Health and Safety Officer
  • Use specialist in-house and commercial software to collate/analyse data, to aid in the risk assessment of potentially contaminated sites and to be adept at statistical assessment of numerical data with a sound understanding of the appropriate assessment of risks to human health and controlled waters from ground contamination
  • Compile and review Phase 2 geoenvironmental intrusive investigation reports, remediation strategy reports, options appraisals, validation reports.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.
  • Act as a technical lead for LEAP in your chosen area of expertise, keeping up to date with industry developments and disseminating relevant information to the rest of the staff, as well as engaging with the wider RSK Group business groups to share knowledge and ensure consistency across the business.
  • Representing the Company on an industry or academic committee and take responsibility for dissemination of technical updates to staff for example.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Chemistry, Civil Engineering or a related subject essential
  • MSc in Land contamination/ hydrogeology or Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or Contaminated Land preferable but not essential
  • Chartered Geologist, Scientist or Engineer with a relevant professional body or working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g. CGeol, CEng, CIWEM)
  • Typically requires at least 7-10 years specific relevant experience
  • Full UK driving licence
