Job Description

Job Advert:
Senior Reporter, Trading Risk
Trading Risk is seeking a self-starting and ambitious news and analysis journalist for a fast-paced role covering a specialist global financial market that brings together reinsurance and capital markets.
This beat is varied and engaging for a person curious about such themes as the global impacts of climate change on big weather events like hurricanes, trends in institutional investing and the supply-demand dynamics of global capital markets.
This role would be perfect for a journalist with several years of B2B news reporting experience and who is looking for their next challenge and step up. A background covering financial markets or investing would be an advantage but is by no means essential.
Trading Risk is a sister title to Insurance Insider and Inside P&C, forming the Insider Publishing Group, the fastest-growing unit within B2B publisher Delinian (formerly part of Euromoney). We are a supportive and ambitious team of experienced, passionate reporters and editors, spanning London and New York.

Key aptitudes
First rate communicator – our focus is to be first to break the news in our sector and to offer the most insightful and informative analysis, so you will be spending lots of time building out a network of contacts and calling contacts on the phone.
Highly curious and quick to learn – there is a full suite of training on offer for the right candidate to get you up to speed on the technicalities of our sector. We do not expect knowledge of our subject from day one, instead we are looking for a fast and engaged learner.
Able to think on your feet – this is a fast-paced role that covers quick-turnaround wires journalism, off-diary news reporting and breaking news stories, and mid-length, deeper dive analysis and opinion pieces. You will be expected to juggle multiple demands on your time and to manage varied deadlines.
Numeracy – this is a financial reporting role with a degree of technicality to it, and it will help to have a head for figures.
Adventurousness – Trading Risk serves a global audience, with concentrations of readers in financial hubs including London, Bermuda, New York, and Zurich, and the senior reporter will be expected to travel a few times a year and to report and network in person at industry conferences.
Ambition – we set high standards for our journalism and look for candidates who share our passion for excellence. This role will demand your full range of talent and energy and in return offers an excellent opportunity to develop your skills as a journalist and to take significant steps forward in your career.

Key responsibilities
Write informative and accurate financial wires stories to a tight deadline.
Generate and chase down off-diary news stories by building and maintaining a network of contacts in the sector.
Contribute analysis and opinion pieces.
Build up specialist industry knowledge over time.
Contribute to results coverage, by producing quick-turnaround write ups of quarterly financial disclosures from relevant companies.
Attend conferences in the UK and internationally, building contacts and reporting on conference sessions.

Key skills
A journalism qualification
A track record of working within a professional newsroom, and producing quality original content

About this role
We offer a competitive compensation package which empowers our employees to thrive both professionally and personally. Our benefits package includes an attractive pension scheme and flexible work arrangements.
Insider Publishing Group is a unit of Delinian, a portfolio company of highly specialised global businesses, focused on critical insights into a broad range of markets.
