Overall Purpose of the Job:
To provide project level Systems Engineering (processes, methods and tools) Technical Leadership working as a partnership with Project and Programme Management
The role will be to deliver either Helicopter, Combat Air or Air Support platform projects as well as potentially some aircraft modification activities within our Air Engineering Centre
The technical content of these projects include procurement support, certification, test & evaluation, aircraft modification and systems assessment for both current and future aircraft.
Key Accountabilities: The job holder is accountable for:
Day-to-day leadership and management of technical teams to deliver integrated engineering outputs to contracted time, cost and quality that meet the customer’s requirements.
The technical management of all activities on a project including acting as required as the technical point of contact for the customer (MOD, Commercial or other Defence).
Engaging with customers to elicit and understand their requirements, and manage the process of analysis and decomposition of the requirements.
Coordination of activities between various specialist technical disciplines, working in partnership with the Project Managers, to ensure a consistent approach to the delivery of our products and technical advice which includes the generation and execution of Technical Delivery Plans.
Provision of technical support to the Sales and Bid teams in terms of the creation of the innovative technical solutions, inc. delivery plans and estimates (supported by Subject Matter Experts).
Ensuring consistency of technical processes, methods and tools in accordance with the company Operating Framework to meet customer requirements.
Identification of project technical risks and assisting the Project Manager with the management of them.
Ensuring compliance with business processes and technical engineering governance.

Person Specification:
Essential education, qualifications and training:
Recognised relevant aerospace qualification to at least HND standard or above supported by relevant technical training.
Essential knowledge, skills and experience required:
Excellent people leadership and communication skills
Sound knowledge and experience of applying general Systems Engineering principles.
Knowledge of Military and/or Civil Air Platforms and sub systems;
Technical experience throughout the air vehicle engineering life cycle
Ability to make sound judgements and decisions on integrated solutions
Sound knowledge of technical governance
Knowledge of aircraft certification and systems design
Aerospace Engineering Background with a track record of relevant technical activity delivery.
Essential personal qualities and behavioural requirements:
Recognised as a leader
Good team player with good customer facing presence
Ability to work well under pressure
Able to stand behind technical judgement.
Desirable criteria:
Relevant Engineering degree
Incorporated or Chartered Engineer, or evidence of progress towards Professional Registration with a PEI
Experience of applying system engineering toolsets and paradigms such as IBM DOORS, MBSE, V & V, etc.
System Design experience
Knowledge of the MOD customer and MOD Procurement process
Knowledge of relevant MAA and CAA regulations
Knowledge and experience of applying EASA Part -21J/MAA DAOS
Knowledge of air systems development
