Job Description
We are currently recruiting for an Uniform Assistant to work a temporary contract with Surrey Police. This role will be based at the Stonebridge Depot near Guildford.
You will be working 5 day week, normal hours plus evenings and weekends as required (office based).
JOB PURPOSE
The issue, receipt, safe-keeping and stock-taking of stock items, including maintenance of documentation, as directed by the Uniform Services Supervisor. To provide a reception service for the uniform stores receiving visitors, students, contractors, staff and suppliers
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- To issue clothing and other items to police officers and support staff across Surrey and Sussex, in accordance with policy and procedure, accurately recording all transactions.
- To deal with all customers, suppliers and others in a polite and helpful manner whether meeting with them face to face or communicating by telephone, e mail or other means, with a view to enhancing the professional reputation of the Uniform Services
- To provide a fitting service and provide product expertise to ensure that all officers and staff are supplied with fit for purpose and presentable uniform and equipment
- To receive and dispatch stock as necessary; to count and check incoming stock against invoices; and to assist with the loading and unloading of vehicles.
- To assist with the handling, recycling and disposal of returned goods.
- To assist with the storage of stock in a way which allows easy audit and retrieval, and which maintains all items in optimum condition with minimum wastage.
- To maintain stock records, raising orders for replenishment as directed by the Uniform Services Supervisor and assisting with regular and annual stock audits
- To keep all store space maintained in a tidy and safe condition ensuring Health and Safety practices are followed.
- Receive and carry out quality control inspections of stock goods delivered from external suppliers. Record any discrepancies in quantity or quality and liaise with suppliers to resolve issues
- Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade and character of work as may be reasonably required, including specific duties of a similar or lesser graded post
- To travel to other locations for team meetings or to travel on a rota basis to provide the same services from a satellite store (i.e. Lewes)
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
- Educated to O level/GCSE level standard or equivalent
- Stock control experience and ability to document and maintain records accurately.
- A demonstrable service/customer oriented approach to undertaking the role.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, ability to speak to a variety of staff and visitors either face to face, or via the telephone or e mail and take messages and deal with customer requests
- Diplomacy skills to manage challenging customers and stakeholder requirements and both internal and external.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety relevant to the role
- Computer literate, basic IT skills
- Remain calm under pressure
- Good organisational skills
- Able to work in a methodical and logical way demonstrating high levels of accuracy and attention to detail
- Self motivated with ability to problem solve and use own initiative
- Demonstrate excellent time management skills and work to strict deadlines
- Ability to work in a team environment as well as alone.
- Ability to lift and carry using safe handling techniques, including handling items at height
