Job Description

Assist Nursing staff with clerical duties relating to admission, discharge & transfer of patients

Book patients into the Ward/Area as required

Answer telephone calls, deal with enquiries, relay queries as appropriate

Liaise with the Medical Record Office & Medical Secretaries where appropriate regarding admission/discharge/transfer, making follow up/ new appointments & re-scheduling where required

Maintain medical records in good order, file reports/letters ensuring most recent reports are available

Following patient discharge, ensure patient case notes are complete, files on order & follow up arrangements completed before forwarding notes from the unit

Ensuring all patient notes are tracked in/out of the department

Assist nursing staff in the co-ordination of paperwork, patients property & valuables under the instruction of the Nurse in Charge

Manage systems of recording/tracking equipment loans from the unit & their returns

Receive visitors to the ward, direct/advise as necessary

Arrange transport for patients as necessary

Ensure all patient & staff notes/ records are confidentially maintained in line with trust policies & procedures

Maintain effective processes to ensure accurate bed availability (Bed Management in line with trust policies and procedures)
