About the Role:
Account Managers are responsible for the wellbeing of entire client accounts, or large parts of a major account. This includes managing a large portfolio of projects, ensuring that they are delivered on schedule, within budget and to the required specifications.

Account Managers ensure that a complete brief is taken for all projects, and that all details are communicated to relevant stakeholders (both internally and externally), driving the day-to-day management of projects to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:
Communication
  • Ensure clarity in all written and verbal communications, including the ability to adapt tone and approach to suit the situation; e.g. client communication vs internal communication
  • Take the lead on day-to-day client communication, including preparing call agendas, leading status calls and writing contact reports for internal and external distribution
Project Delivery
  • Manage resource for all projects in close collaboration with senior team members and other departments, clearly communicating and implementing all relevant SOPs
  • Facilitate the delivery of high-quality projects on time and within budget, ensuring that quality control is maintained throughout the project
  • Conduct overall management of project completion, scheduling regular team meetings and ensuring all projects are fully briefed, including time and quality expectations
  • Attend weekly account team meetings, planning and driving the agenda
  • Accurately complete client contact reports with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrate the ability to execute projects independently, ensuring internal processes are adhered to
  • Contribute towards quality assurance through participation in the medical and marketing review of projects
  • Take accountability for your own time and effective prioritisation of your tasks and responsibilities, ensuring that quality deliverables meet required standards
  • Identify and brief key stakeholders (including internal team members, suppliers and clients) as to when then need to get involved
  • Simultaneously work effectively across multiple accounts, increasing your exposure to different clients and projects
  • Be flexible – you need to demonstrate the ability to adapt your approach to changing situations and stakeholders; e.g. correctly identifying when you prioritise an urgent client request
  • Enter time and submit expenses by the deadlines set, using appropriate job codes
Strategic mindset
  • Understand and internally discuss client strategy and/or objectives
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the global healthcare market, relevant therapy areas, and medical communication programmes, including publications, congresses, events and market access
Business Development
  • Implement new services and tools to meet or anticipate evolving client needs
  • Assist in the preparation of new business pitches and presentations, including research, scheduling and other internal needs
  • Identify and build organic business opportunities with existing clients through intelligence gathering and proposal development
Collaboration and Building Relationships
  • Start to partner with clients more independently, nurturing relationships for long-term mutual benefit, as well as enhancing Synergy’s reputation
  • Mentor allocated junior account team members to ensure that a consistently high level of project and account management is maintained
  • Provide direction to junior team members, delegating responsibilities and tasks where appropriate to give experience, growth and knowledge transfer
  • Take the lead on interdepartmental relationship issues, immediately identifying and solving problems or conflicts
Financial Acumen
  • Correctly use financial tools to keep the team up to date on key financial trackers
  • Develop client budgets, scopes of work and estimates when needed (with minimal revision)
  • Manage client account potential to meet and exceed the annual forecast, working closely with senior team members and the business development team as required
  • Demonstrate effective negotiation skills when working with suppliers
  • Own responsibility for providing up-to-date financial reports, both internally and for clients, ensuring reports are tracked efficiently – collaborate with the commercial finance team for guidance and input
  • Continue to build on your existing knowledge of profitability and the agency business model
Taking the Initiative
  • Proactively give and receive constructive feedback, implementing any learnings
  • Take responsibility for developing your knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and compliance
  • Own responsibility for your personal development, regularly looking for other ways to learn and grow professionally by maximising exposure to new opportunities, making the most of training and requesting training as required
  • Undertake tasks outside of the specifics of the job description where business reasons require it
Skills and Experience:
Essential
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant science subject or 2 years’ previous account management experience in a similar role
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to travel internationally
Desirable
  • Previous experience in a medical communications agency would be highly advantageous
  • Demonstrable multitasking ability
