This appointment will require an experienced senior submarine engineer to support technical teams involved in submarine design, in-service support and submarine organisational development. The customer base includes UK MoD UK submarine industrial base and the Australian DoD. In addition, the individual will be responsible for supporting the SNCL-Atkins submarine account team in interfacing and liaising with the clients in the market sector. The overall aim is to ensure the highest standards of quality delivery to the customer, drawing upon relevant submarine operating and design knowledge to enhance this developing line of business within SNCL-Atkins.

In summary, this will involve:

  • Using the individuals experience and knowledge to provide high-level review and support to SNCL-Atkins technical teams in submarine related projects.
  • Using the individuals experience to provide high-level advice and support to the customer teams.
  • Deployment and development of the Atkins technical capability to support the opportunities.
  • Supporting the submarine account activities, providing domain experience to develop senior level engagement and input to ongoing projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Support ongoing workstream activities, providing high-level submarine propulsion/in-service/nuclear regulatory and safety advice to Atkins technical teams and customers.
  • Work collaboratively across the UK business to motivate and mobilise a team to support successful submarine project delivery.
  • Understand in detail the client’s engineering strategy and organisational design, key points of influence, culture, external drivers, challenges, risks and opportunities and work to share this across the business.
  • Be recognised as the key relationship holder with senior clients; providing knowledge, resources and acting as advisor and critical friend.
  • Provide nuclear submarine domain expertise/support to bid teams as required.

Essential Experience:

  • You will bring an in-depth understanding of the UK Submarine Enterprise, developed from operations and support at a senior level.
  • You will have exceptional relationship building and influencing skills at a senior level that apply both to our clients in the market, as well as within our own business, the latter straddling all divisions that we rely upon to deliver our services.
  • A strategic thinker with a grasp of the detail you will be comfortable providing high-level strategic direction to clients.
  • A motivator, team builder and leader, you will be able to align groups of Atkins stakeholders behind your technical approach to delivering value for our customers.
  • A pro-active decision maker with a confident yet diplomatic operating style - someone who deals easily with cultural diversity.
