The Waste and Environment Data Technician works as a member of a team, managing complex data collection processes from allocated contractors and partners, ensuring timeliness and accuracy of data, as required for statutory performance reporting purposes and to support financial processes.

With the ability to understand use of the waste database management systems, bespoke data collection and performance reporting. This role will need the ability to build working relationships across the Council and partners.

Accountabilities

  • Contribute to the maintenance of all administrative data within the Council’s waste database system.
  • Contribute to the provision of data, in the required format, for statutory entry to WasteDataFlow at initial level, enabling first level validation.
  • Input to the waste database system, ensuring submissions from third parties is complete, timely and all validation processes are met.
  • Contributes to the audit of WCA recycling credits, Tipping Away payments and trade waste declarations. Liaising with WCAs to address discrepancies resulting from the audit process.
  • Generates purchase orders and associated financial transactions as appropriate.
  • Providing support to Contact Essex in relation to general enquiries from members of the public, including the operation of the Household Hazardous Waste scheme.
  • Responsible for recording comments from members of the public and reporting outcomes on RESPOND CentrePoint, and forwarding for investigation as appropriate.
  • Collate and report tonnage data to the Corporate Performance Team, Financial Services and other internal stakeholders as necessary.
  • Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.

The Experience You Will Bring

  • Educated to Level 2 (GCSE) and a sound knowledge of a business environment and associated processes.
  • Ability to understand the requirement and use of the Councils waste database management system, and the bespoke data collection and performance reporting system.
  • Ability to develop good working relationships across internal and external partners.
  • Good organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work accurately under time pressure.
  • Ability to research, analyse and present a variety of information mediums to a wide range of audiences.
