Your New Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Grounds Maintenance Operative/Driver to join our Scottish Grounds Maintenance Account in Edinburgh.


Our Scottish Grounds Maintenance Account works in partnership with other Amey accounts to internally deliver grounds maintenance services. Our primary work stream involves the delivery of grounds maintenance services on behalf of our facility management colleagues in Secure Infrastructure. This work involves all of the planned grounds maintenance activities across 70 school sites nationally. These sites are spread over 6 local authority locations, including Borders, Clackmannanshire, Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Renfrewshire. In addition to planned maintenance, we also deliver winter and responsive works services. The accounts other main activity is to deliver internal vegetation management on behalf of NMCSW and NMCNE highways contracts.

The Grounds Maintenance Operative/Driver will work in a team to provide grounds maintenance services in the Edinburgh area.

You will be responsible for:
  • Based out of our Inverkeithing depot the role will involve being part of a mobile ground’s maintenance team servicing school sites in Edinburgh, Clacks and Borders
  • General maintenance, such as grass cutting, hedge trimming, clearing leaves and litter, verges
  • Horticulture activities such as planting, pruning and seeding
  • Setting out, marking sports pitches including grass and tarmac surfaces
  • Upkeep of artificial, synthetic pitches
  • Operate light plant and power tools
  • Undertake vehicle, tractor, and cutting equipment checks

What makes this role unique

The role involves looking after all aspects of grounds maintenance on 23 of our school sites in Edinburgh, Clacks and Borders. We cover all aspects of grounds maintenance, including amenity areas, natural grass sports pitches, synthetic sports surfaces, woodland and planted areas. The wide scope of our service and number of tasks involved give this role a nice variety.

We want to hear from you if you have:
  • A Full driving licence with category B+E (trailers)
  • Experience in the use of ride on mower equipment

Ideally candidate will have extended knowledge of gardening and horticulture operations with experience in ground maintenance type of duties.

In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have the ability to pass PVG check, strimmer, small grounds maintenance plant of the network to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
