Role Purpose:


Reporting to the Senior Manager – Enterprise Security Architecture and Strategy, the Telecom Security Architect – Regulatory Specialist is an architecture specialist in interpreting and applying legal security frameworks such as the UK Telcom Security Act.

They are responsible for supervising and delivering security architecture frameworks, blueprints, and solutions needed to develop solutions in compliance with regulatory frameworks such as:

  • Telecom signaling protection
  • Telecom management plan protection
  • SIM, eSIM, and CPE security
  • Mobile core security
  • Virtualization security
  • Specific 4G and 5G security
  • Security of supporting services and IT stacks such as OSS and BSS
  • Transport network security


They are also responsible for supporting management and stakeholders in delivering architecture solutions by taking direct rensability for work streams covering a range of technical work to develop and maintain a security architecture(s) to protect all aspects of Vodafone’s Network and Telco systems.


Acting as a Subject Matter Expert in the telecom field the role is responsible for contributing to the delivery and maintenance of an enterprise-wide telecom security architecture. They work in conjunction with internal personnel maintaining communication with several regulators and interfacing with the technical bodies of the regulators themselves.


They will develop the blueprint of technical security controls and corresponding roadmaps, assessing, and influencing suppliers.


They will work with the wider cyber security architecture team to relay the requirements and inputs from regulators to align and update controls, policies, and technologies needed to mitigate security risks. They also work across all local markets and global network architecture and design teams to set the global Telco and Network security standards for Vodafone.


They act as a subject matter expert when specific controls and technologies need to be adapted to meet specific local regulatory requirements. They will lead knowledge-sharing sessions, assurance, and remediation activities in coordination with other Cyber departments and network stakeholders.


This role involves stakeholder engagement and partnerships with Group Privacy & Legal functions and with key external government bodies.


The individual is also expected to have and maintain a good understanding of the latest research, technology, and policy topics, especially where they might have an impact on Vodafone and its customers, across all markets.


Key Accountabilities:


Impact on the business: This role is responsible for ensuring that Vodafone’s Telco and Network system security architecture roadmap supports both business objectives and regulatory compliance. The security architecture strategy roadmap is a critical component that needs to be tailored to the specific entity requirements.


Leadership and teamwork: The role holder will be one of a team of Security Architects delivering world-class security solutions to the Vodafone business. They will also be expected to lead security solution design projects and to highlight and articulate risk mitigation requirements that also comply with regulatory requirements. The ability to lead and influence security strategy at a senior technical level is paramount, but the role holder should be business focussed, with the clear objective of security being a business enabler and a strong capability to communicate the security risk.


Innovation and change: The role holder will be responsible for driving a perception change from security from being seen as an inhibiter to a business differentiator.


Customers, suppliers, and third parties – The individual will work heavily with all stakeholders to forge a community within Vodafone to promote security by design. They will also work with Vodafone’s suppliers assessing and influencing their roadmaps to meet Vodafone's Security Architecture.

Apply if you have:


  • Expert knowledge of security architectures, technologies, standards, and industry guidelines, especially those applicable to the Telecommunication sector and Network.
  • Deep knowledge of at least one of the main telecommunication mobile architectures such as 4G Mobile Core, 5G Mobile Core, 2G/4G/5G Access, and RAN technologies.
  • Working knowledge of telecom endpoint device security such as CPE, mobile device, and SIM.
  • Good understanding of virtualization technologies in Telco environments.
  • A proven track record, in designing, documenting, and deploying a range of security features for a global organization’s Telco and Network infrastructure.
  • Proven track record of actively contributing to the creation, review, and redactions of standard, high-level architecture documents and presentations at all levels from very technical to leadership level.
  • Excellent communication capabilities to provide rapid and concise summaries of complex scenarios and communicate security risk in business terms and the ability to interact effectively with senior internal and external stakeholders.
  • Consultancy Skills delivered in culturally aware global corporate environments


Must-Have Technical Skills:-


  • Bachelors and/or Masters degree in a relevant field e.g., IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Security, Telecoms.
  • Experience in large Telecom carriers or Telecom vendors.


Preferred:-


  • Virtualization, Containers, and Cloud technologies (e.g. VMware) knowledge
  • Cryptography and PKI (Public Key Infrastructure)
  • Experience in managing and developing a threat model and related risks, capacity to assess security risks in complete systems and environments by evaluating attack surface, vulnerabilities, and threats.
  • Working knowledge of transport technologies such as IP/MPLS/Broadband; OSS and BSS architectures; cloud blueprints and solutions.
  • Security Certifications such as CISSP
