Norfolk and Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust provides child and adult mental health services, learning disability, wellbeing, older people's and eating disorder services across Norfolk and Suffolk.

Here is a great opportunity for a mental health nurse, occupational therapist or social worker looking to join a truly fantastic team. Our Psychiatric Liaison Service within West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds, is looking for a skilled and experienced person to join the passionate and dedicated team.

This role is vital for those attending the West Suffolk Hospital with new or ongoing mental health difficulties and/or illness; to identify their needs, ensuring these are met effectively whilst in hospital and to contribute towards timely/supportive discharge planning.

A flexible can do attitude, with a willingness to build links with the hospital colleagues is essential to ensure that a proactive interface is created between mental health and acute services.

The service operates 24/7, 365 days of the year meaning you will be required to work shifts.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessment of mental state of patients in assessment departments within the hospital, or admitted to a ward
  • Assessment of mental health needs on departure from West Suffolk Hospital
  • Assessment of risk
  • Improving knowledge and understanding of mental health issues within the hospital and proactively exploring and developing partnerships and pathways to improve patient prognosis and outcomes
  • Contribute to positive interfacing with staff across Trust and external services

It works as a single point of access for referrals, providing a range of mental health specialties to patients of all ages. Our teams respond to a diverse range of referrals covering both the liaison and crisis assessment function.

  • Degree level (or equivalent) qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Further education relating to leadership or advanced clinical skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience working with people with mental illness
  • Experience working in acute mental health settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working within crisis pathways

This update service is an annual subscription at a cost of £13 to you. This will enable the Trust to have instant online access to your DBS record, with your consent, and so will remove the need for you to have to apply for this repeat check again.
