About You
We currently have exciting opportunity for a Logistics Improvement Leader on site in Barrow on the edge of the beautiful Lake District. You will have accountability for all onsite logistics and waste management making sure you adhere to compliance and regulations. You will also face the exciting challenge of continuous improvement and be creative of how we can do things better.
What’s more, you’ll train and mentor others, creating a legacy of best practice at our Barrow in Furness factory on the edge of the beautiful Lake district!

The Role
Logistics / Material Management
Key contact for all logistical operation of finished good movements within the mill with an annualised value of over $200m
Accountable for the storage accuracy of incoming process materials with an average holding value of £2m by driving improvement in how the mill stores and moves materials on site.
Ownership and management of the site truck fleet and the associated contract with an annualised value of over £600k (including day to day direction of contracted labour)
Ownership of incoming material standards to ensure compliance from a COSHH and product safety clearance perspective
Liaising with Process Teams and Sector Planning teams to ensure Barrow Mill has the optimal material storage facilities and processes to meet the needs of the business
Point of contact for all logistical capital projects
Leadership and People
Build capability within wider mil operation to ensure robust processes are in place for all people based logistical activities (training plans, 1:1 development etc.)
Provide capability and leadership to ensure that all non-operational and peripheral areas are always maintained at a world class level of housekeeping.
Establish and maintain a work environment that is disciplined and rigorous in the pursuit of continuous improvement.
Continuous Improvement
Act as the key contact to UK supply chain team for wider ranging logistical improvement projects i.e. Material flow, waste, sustainability, Fuel 2 Grow etc.
Ownership of standards and layout of material flows, improving processes through process mapping to ensure we optimise space vs materials storage needs. Act as the mill conscience for ensuring material flow and disposal standards are maintained.
Support both Barrow Mill and UK supply Chain improvement projects.
Safety
Act as ‘Responsible person’ for transport risk assessment process guiding the risk reduction activities relating to site Transport.
Ensure the site Transport Risk Assessment is reviewed and updated as site conditions change and driving the associated risk reduction program
Deliver new initiatives and changes to working practices; through Risk Assessment, sMOC processes
Support UK Logistics with new initiatives and changes to working practices; through Risk Assessment, sMOC processes
Support and direct the mill with investigation into transport related incidents, accidents etc
Waste Management
Drive continuous improvement activity to reduce the environmental footprint and cost base of the site
Guide all work programs relating to Barrow Mill waste management processes; driving improvement, ensuring KC duty of care and legal requirements are met whilst delivering a cost-effective waste removal provision
Ensuring correct record keeping and classification of wastes
Management of onsite waste segregation and storage systems.
Management of one off and unusual waste including ‘Hazardous Waste’
We are looking for someone who has strong experience in logistics management and/or operations ideally within FMCG environment. A background in continuous improvement application and coaching plus ideally working towards a formal qualification in Waste Management and Safety Management.
