Overview:

The Operations Supervisor will work as part of a team to provide superior service and stakeholder satisfaction through responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of equipment utilized for the purpose of tasks related to de-icing aircraft. The Operations Supervisor is further responsible for supporting the company goals and objectives and promoting the business interests of the company by conducting him or herself in a professional manner while maintaining excellent customer service and good public relations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Promoting and adhering to our safety and respectful workplace culture and instilling this culture while ensuring that IDS is in compliance with all Government Labour, Health and Safety laws, regulations and policies;
  • Proactively foster a learning safety culture by modeling a safe work ethic and promoting the value of open reporting and shared safety responsibility. Follow all safety policies, standards, and procedures in order to achieve a safe and healthy work environment for all staff, customers, and visitors. Similarly support IDS’s environmental commitments by helping to limit our organization’s impact on the ecosystem;
  • Abide by IDS’s procedural handbooks, operational plans, and directives of management to ensure that all work is done according to specifications and/or regulations;
  • Assist the Management with all aspects of the daily operations in a manner which preserves the overall health, safety and security of employees and company assets;
  • Develop, maintain and ensure that employees follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS) and that IDS De-icer’s are in compliance with environmental laws, guidelines and reporting;
  • Supervise all aspects of the daily aircraft de-icing operations as well as provide leadership and coaching to increase overall safety, performance, maintenance, facility requirements and customer service;
  • Assist Operations Manager with recruitment, onboarding, employee training and development for the station;
  • Provide training to all employees in the proper operations of aircraft de-icing and passenger services procedures;
  • When required assist with the administration of personnel documents, employee issues, and submit required documents to the Corporate Office for maintenance of employment files;
  • Supply assistance in troubleshooting problems and to assist operators technically;
  • Work co-operatively with all other staff involved in the completion of assigned duties and ensure full communication with next shift regarding current state of equipment;
  • Communicate regularly on airline manual updates to provide information to employees and coordinate with the General Manager and Operations Manager on investigations of any security issues, accident reviews and be a part of the review and recommendation process for safety measures taken to prevent further occurrences;
  • Ensure all reporting; record keeping and communications are complete, accurate and timely as per company policies;
  • Comply with airline contracts and ensure specifications are met;
  • Provide and maintain outstanding customer service while enforcing safety rules in the workplace and proper equipment use by all levels of employees;
  • Assist the Operations Manager with station audits, provide information needed for airline reports, and handle all airline and FAA questions/concerns as required;
  • Assist the General Manager with preparing budgets, create invoicing and manage payroll;
  • Conduct regular Health & Safety meetings during the operating season and conduct monthly workplace inspections;
  • Be alert and aware of other apron traffic, and to only begin de-icing when it can be done safely without interfering with aircraft movement. Aircraft always have the right of way;
  • Take proper measures to ensure that aircrafts are de-iced properly and airline manual requirements are met;
  • Promote the best interest of the company by fostering goodwill and support between IDS and its customers ensuring that IDS’s policy of superior service and satisfaction are met;
  • Understand and promote the Company’s mission statement, values and strategic goals;
  • Drive and maintain a high level of efficiency and productivity;
  • To accomplish any other tasks that may, from time to time, be assigned by management.
  • The Aircraft De-icer’s and Leads will report directly to the Operations Supervisor.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Successful completion of IDS’s extensive de-icing training which includes classroom and on-the-job training;
  • Must have the ability to mentor and train personnel and management to accommodate future growth and expansion;
  • Flexible schedule;
  • Intermediate computer skills with working knowledge of Microsoft programs and the ability to use IDS’s independent computer program “Ice Link – Aircraft Ground De-icing Management System”;
  • The ability to use an iPad and/or laptop;
  • Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively;
  • Ability to interpret documents including safety rules, operating and procedure manuals;
  • Ability to maintain a positive and good-natured attitude;
  • Must be comfortable working at various heights;
  • Must be comfortable operating large vehicles during inclement weather in constricted areas;
  • Ability to remain calm and perform under pressure and within fixed time constraints;
  • Willing to learn new skills and adapt to change in order to support the growth of the company and meet needs of customers.

Education and Experience:

  • 5+ years of airline operational experience including but not limited to customer service, maintenance, de-icing operations, facility requirements and safety/regulatory requirements;
  • Successful completion of post-secondary education in Aviation Management, Business Management or a related field of study considered an asset;
  • Previous supervisory and/or management experience considered an asset.

Certifications/Licenses:

  • Legally entitled to work in the country where position is located;
  • Driver’s license valid in country of operation and driving record that meets Company insurance standards;
  • Airside ID Pass;
  • Airside Driving Permit (ADP).

Work Environment:

The Operations Supervisor will have a mixture or operational and office duties. While most of the job will be spent on the airfield ensuring that operations goals are being achieved, time will be spent on office tasks. There will be regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions (wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and vibration). The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. There will be times when the Operations Supervisor will be required to work outside of their normal work schedule, so that we may meet the needs of our customers and/or operational requirements. This position requires regular on-site attendance to meet immediate business demands. Remote or hybrid work is prohibited.


Physical Demands:

  • It is expected that the candidate be physically fit and able to perform all operational requirements;
  • Position involves standing or sitting for extended periods of time as well as bending, kneeling, lifting, climbing, using hands to control tools and feel objects, reaching with hands and arms;
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull objects up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally and twenty (20) pounds regularly;
  • Employees must have the ability to climb 15-foot heights for work;
  • Wearing of personal protective equipment when required and full mobility allowing for freedom of movement in high-risk environment;
  • Must be able to speak clearly and hear efficiently;
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus;
  • Ability to work in a confined space for extended periods of time;
  • Work outdoors for long periods when necessary;
  • May be required to move, connect, disconnect hoses and be able to operate industrial valves and perform general labor duties.
