About the Role

Titan Primary Care Network is recruiting for an enthusiastic and self-motivated pharmacy technician to work across our three practices within central Bedfordshire. The successful candidate will be aligned to one of our three GP practices: Wheatfield Surgery in Luton, Houghton Regis Medical Centre in Houghton Regis and Toddington Medical Centre in Toddington.
Pharmacy technicians play a valuable role within the primary care multi-disciplinary team (MDT), particularly to support healthcare professionals to focus on clinical care. The responsibilities of this role will cover clinical, technical and administrative elements and will complement the work of our clinical pharmacists. The successful candidate will be supervised and mentored by a clinical pharmacist, and supported with their learning and development through the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway.

The main duties of the job include:

  • Supporting patients to improve their adherence to medicines and to reduce waste;
  • Signposting patients to appropriate services and other healthcare professionals;
  • Being the point of contact, for the practice, for all medicines-related queries for healthcare professionals and patients;
  • Training care home staff in the safe handling and administration of medicines;
  • Reconciliation of medicines following transfer of care;
  • Supporting the GPs and other practice staff to deliver on QIPP agenda, QOF and locally commissioned enhanced services;
  • Implementing and monitoring adherence to repeat prescription policy and promoting repeat dispensing;
  • Contributing to clinical education of other healthcare professionals;
  • Supporting GPs and practices nurses to adhere to alliance and practice formularies and NICE guidance to improve the choice and cost effectiveness of medicines;
  • Improving patient safety with the efficient use of software to identify patients at risk of harm from medicines.


About the Candidate

We are looking for a pharmacy technician with relevant qualifications, sound experience and good clinical pharmacy knowledge. The post-holder will be expected to possess necessary skills for developing the role supporting the wider primary care network team with issues relating to medicines optimisation. Applicants should be able to think analytically and proactively, to anticipate problems and recommend appropriate solutions as well as being committed to completing the Primary Care Pharmacy Education Pathway.

The successful candidate will:

  • be a registered pharmacy technician with the GhPC;
  • hold a Diploma Level 3 in pharmacy services, or equivalent;
  • have strong experience in either a community pharmacy or a primary care setting;
  • be confident in analysing and presenting information to health professionals;
  • have experience of implementing and promoting cost-effective strategies;
  • have the ability to interpret complex clinical information and present it in suitable formats, to a variety of people from professional and non-professional backgrounds;
  • have strong written and verbal communication skills;
  • work well in a team.
