Job Description

The Press Office team cover a broad range of important issues, including terrorism, hate crime, cyber-crime and sexual offences

The primary role of the team is to explain and promote the work of the CPS to the public through the media - and this could be for any of the priority portfolio areas listed above.

They will deliver high-quality, proactive and reactive media handling and produce engaging content for an external audience, including press releases and social media content. They will also be expected to contribute to effective communications campaigns that are integrated across our channels.

As an experienced communicator, they will contribute to building the profile of the CPS and driving up public understanding of the work we do. They will also work with partners across the criminal justice system to build a joined-up approach to communications activity


As Press Officer- (Inside IR35) the main requirements would be:


Essential:

  • Must have experience of working within a Press Office environment - ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of and an understanding of working with digital communications – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of using Social Media products – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of working across varying teams within an organisation – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of working on a creating proactive campaigns - ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of writing press releases – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of communications work – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of working with external media and working with journalists


  • Recent use of journalistic/press skills – ESSENTIAL


  • Knowledge and ability to create digital / social media communications – ESSENTIAL


  • Experience of attending meetings and briefing senior colleagues – ESSENTIAL


  • Excellent communication skills. - ESSENTIAL


  • Experience using Microsoft Office - ESSENTIAL


Desirable:

  • Experience using Adobe – DESIRABLE


  • Public Sector experience - DESIRABLE
