Job role: Night Shift Manager

Location: Portsmouth

Salary: £38k-£40k

Shift Pattern: Tuesday Night- Saturday Night

Menzies Distribution has an excellent opportunity for an energised and experienced Night Shift Manager to join our Portsmouth depot. Our team play a vital role in supporting our business to deliver world-class service and time-critical newspapers & magazines to our 1,250 Newstrade customers.

Working closely with the Operations Manager you will build and maintain strong working relationships with all colleagues and provide leadership for the night shift team. You will have oversight for a team of Deputy Shift Managers, Warehouse Operatives and Drivers for whom you’ll be responsible for coaching, training and motivating.

Night Shift Manager Duties:

  • Manage and motivate the night teams to meet customer timescales and improve productivity
  • Manage performance of night shift management team through agreed KPI’s via regular 1:1s and performance reviews
  • Actively manage all KPI’s to develop a culture of continuous improvement, ensuring team productivity and cost targets (wages, overtime, H&S, maintenance, equipment etc) are met
  • Manage allocation of routes for contractors
  • Management of the end to end warehouse functions and processes
  • Provide ‘hand over report’ to oncoming Shift Manager
  • Maintain quality standards across all functions
  • Ensure inductions and effective ‘onboarding’ processes are carried out for all new staff
  • Provide training to all staff and contractors to ensure they are able to undertake their duties effectively, efficiently and safely
  • Ensure Health & Safety is maintained to a high standard and all staff receive the relevant training

Night Shift Manager Requirements:

  • Relevant night experience running high paced parcel/distribution operation
  • Experience of managing all aspects of health and safety and of working in an environment where there is a strong health and safety culture
  • A proven track record of effective people management
  • Experience of delivering expanding operational KPI’s with an eye on quality and cost control
  • Ability to demonstrate entrepreneurial thinking
  • A common sense approach to problem solving
  • Computer literate
  • Able to prioritise and manage tasks in a fast paced, pressurised 24/7 environment
  • Comfortable working to strict deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
