This is an exciting role as part of the Active Essex Relationship Team, suitable for an enthusiastic candidate who is passionate about changing the lives of communities across Mid Essex and contributing to the Sport and Physical Activity strategic priority.

This is a hybrid role, where you will be expected to travel to meet partners, attend events and work from County Hall, Chelmsford regularly. This can be discussed further at interview.

Active Essex is positioned within Essex County Council’s Public Health function and is the strategic lead for sport and physical activity across Essex, Southend and Thurrock.

The Role

Active Essex is recruiting an Assistant Relationship Manager to drive the work of the place-based, relationship team in Mid Essex (Chelmsford, Braintree & Maldon) and support the Sport & Physical Activity Sector strategic priority.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Mid Essex Relationship Manager / Strategic Lead for Sport & Physical Activity, the role duties will include:

Place-Based:

  • Operational management of projects and programmes outlined in the Delivery Plan for Mid Essex.
  • Providing reporting and impact data on the above as requested
  • Responsible for establishing strong relationships with key stakeholders across Mid Essex, influencing and making the case for sport and physical activity.
  • Responsible for ensuring services are co-designed with local partners, joining up of resources and using customer/community insight and feedback to identify service improvements and future planning.
  • Taking an active role in local boards, forum, meetings or events, representing Active Essex.
  • Ensure our work strengthens, unifies, and improves community cohesion, breaking down barriers and addressing inequalities.

Strategic Priority:

  • Supporting the Sport & Physical Activity Implementation Plan, working across the business with our place-based Relationship Hub Teams to embed the theme of work across Essex.
  • Supporting development of our People, Culture, Skills framework and building relationships with key stakeholders across people development and skills landscape.
  • Responsible for acting as a strong advocate for equality and diversity in sport and physical activity to ensure that equality is embedded in all Active Essex developments.
  • Understand the Sport & Physical Activity landscape and support the local infrastructure in Essex to thrive.

General:

  • Supporting the wider Active Essex Implementation Plan delivery as and when required

Person Specification:

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Experience of managing projects; developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating delivery plans and budgets for programmes.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering successful projects with clearly defined outcomes at a County and/or local level with evidence of strong impact.
  • Proven experience of building effective working relationships with a wide range of local and national stakeholders.
  • Experience in a physical activity or community development field
  • An awareness of the social, economic, and political context in which Active Essex operates
  • Knowledge of the skills and education landscape and the work of CIMSPA.

Skills & Ability:

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to support and lead on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise and meet deadlines
  • Strong relationship management and communication skills and an ability to negotiate and influence, maintaining partner satisfaction.
  • The ability to work under pressure and adopt a flexible approach to working methods
  • Understanding of how to apply resources to gain maximum impact towards strategic goals.
  • Can demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area
  • Understanding of the inequalities that exist and the role that physical activity has in positively changing the lives of communities across Essex.

This role is an Anywhere Worker, working from home (or another location), attending team meetings in the Chelmsford office as and when required.
