Job Introduction

We are looking for a Clinical Lead to manage the HCRG Care Group Minor injuries and illness Unit based in Paulton Memorial Hospital, in a lovely rural local between Bristol and Bath.

We are looking for someone who is experienced in clinical management and has a willingness to support MIU staff and service users to ensure robust processes and clinical governance.

The role will be both managerial and clinical. This is a great opportunity for an established clinical leader looking for the next step in their career or a change in location to be part of a fantastic service which continues to evolve.

As a Clinician with professional registration and advanced practice skills, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team made up of Paramedics, Nurses and support staff. The role reports directly to the Matron for MIU and inpatients wards. You will deliver a service of both minor injury and illness support to the local community, working in collaboration with partner organisations including the Royal United Hospital Bath (RUH) and BaNES Enhanced Medical Services BEMS), other specialist units across the region and HCRG Care Group internal services.

Main Responsibilities

This post is responsible for the following:

  • Management- Management of the MIU colleagues to include recruitment, retention, supervision, support, professional development, appraisals, and rota management to ensure delivery of an effective and progressive service. Ensuring adherence to policies and procedures. Delivery of performance related targets.
  • Clinical practice- Delivering evidence based advanced clinical practice skills to ensure the appropriate management of patient’s needs. Using skills of triage, prioritisation, assessment, diagnosis, interpretation of tests, such as X Ray, forward planning of care & treatment. Timely intervention & recognition of deteriorating patients, appropriate response, escalation & documentation. Appropriate onward care arrangements. Current Non-medical Prescribing qualification or be working towards gaining one.
  • Leadership- Act as a professional role model for colleagues. Demonstrate collaborative working partnerships with partners and stakeholders. Maintaining excellence, quality, safety & working within the scope of own professional practice.
  • Audit & research- Participate in, initiate, and deliver audit & research to identify current practice, drive continuous improvement & contribute to the development of new knowledge, theory & practice to benefit patients & colleagues.
  • Supporting the learning environment- Commitment to & evidencing of personal professional development. Providing a positive learning environment for students & colleagues. Delivering training & education to support up to date evidenced based practice.
  • Continuous improvement- Identifying poor practice & supporting improvement opportunities as part of a Just Culture based on reflection, learning & improvement through SBAR completion, thematic review. Management of incidents with focus on learning and improvement.
The Ideal Candidate

You will be an experienced Clinician & non-medical prescriber with current registration with the associated professional regulatory body. You will have evidence of completion of training to support the delivery of advanced practice skills in either an acute trust ED or in a Urgent Treatment Centre or MIU in a community setting.

Ideally you will have had previous experience in an advanced practice role and the core skills of advanced practice.

You will have experience of colleague and team management and leadership with skills relating to HR issues.

You will be enthusiastic, clinically credible, hardworking, and ready for an exciting challenge.
