Job Description


Do you have a passion for developing traffic engineering solutions, with a particular focus on improving infrastructure for sustainable modes including buses, cyclists and pedestrians? We have a vacancy for a Active Travel Engineer in the Streets team in our Bristol office.

You will have some experience of working as part of project teams developing feasibility, preliminary and detailed design for active travel / traffic engineering schemes. The role would suit a self-motivated individual looking to advance their career in a dynamic team. We would consider the role on either a full or part-time basis and are happy to look at a range of different working patterns.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Undertake design duties in the preparation of preliminary & detailed design and project delivery of traffic engineering, local transport, urban design/streetscape and local authority/municipal highway schemes;
  • Produce technical design information including drawings, reports and specifications;
  • Ensure the technical content and quality of all outputs are in line with the project brief, design regulations and standards;
  • Collaborate with the wider project team and other engineering disciplines;
  • Assisting in work delegation and co-ordination to graduates and technicians;
  • Produce deliverables to a high standard of quality against agreed timescales and within budget;
  • Undertake Health & Safety duties including ensuring a safe and healthy working environment for team members and fulfilling all responsibilities for safety, health, and the environment in the design;
  • Regularly communicate to the Principal Engineer/ Project Manager on project progress.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience in the Active Travel / Traffic Engineering discipline, for example the development of infrastructure solutions for cyclists and pedestrians; bus priority; and traffic engineering.
  • Ability to demonstrate understanding and application of relevant design standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and MS Office applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A relevant degree and be working towards an appropriate Incorporated or Chartered status with membership of a professional institution.
