Siemens Energy are excited to be recruiting for a Graduate Engineer (Primary) role to be based at our site in Newcastle-Upon Tyne. This is a fantastic opportunity to partake in a structured learning progamme where you will work alongside experienced switchgear engineers to build up your skills and experience.

A Snapshot of Your Day

You will work towards becoming a technical point of contact within the business for both internal and external customers. You will build a knowledge base in our current product lines (YG1 – YG2 – YG3) and work with the business to help introduce our future SF6 alternative gas retrofit solution. You will also work alongside engineers both in the UK and Germany in the roll out of the new Clean Air GIB 420kV type 8VQ3 2. Siemens Energy are at the forefront of Clean Air GIB solutions, and this will be a major product line in the future.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Keep records of all training and on-job training received in a suitable log, while provide regular feedback to an allocated mentor on your progress and training records.
  • Carry out all tasks and training activities to the highest standards, pro-actively seeking out new learning opportunities and assistance when required.
  • Make full use on the Non-conformance reporting (NCR) tool ensuring all NCR’s are closed out in a timely manner.
  • Participate in cost reduction and sales stimulation ideas within the business.
  • Assist in material identification and specification.
  • Work towards providing a proficient level of primary product knowledge to be able to advise on technical factory, site and customer queries.
  • Interrogate customer and industrial technical specifications to deliver high quality designs, drawings and documents for primary engineering requirements.
  • Have the ability to seek advice and identify technical information from others throughout the business and combine this along with your own learning and available industrial standards and technical specifications to engineer the best possible solutions.
  • Assist in recommending and inputting new designs, design changes and processes to meet business requirements.
  • To become proficient in the use of CAD software, such as AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor. This will become an integral part of the role.

What You Bring

  • Suitable degree in and Engineering based subject - Essential
  • Business qualification – Desirable
  • Health & Safety qualification – Desirable
  • Project Management Qualification – Desirable

Experience

  • Fully conversant with Microsoft – Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of the Electrical Supply Industry from a supplier or customer perspective preferred or equivalent industry with demonstrable transferrable knowledge
