ROLE: In-House Solicitor - Insurance Regulation and Compliance

LOCATION: Cardiff or Redhill [Remote and Hybrid options available]

SALARY: £90,000 - £120,000 plus fantastic benefits and bonus

International Medical Group, Inc. based in Indianapolis, USA. With increased focus on growing the business in the UK. IMG are now looking to on board a Head of Compliance and Legal to support both existing and future requirements.

Within the UK we employ over 200 staff . The Group's ultimate owner, SiriusPoint Ltd., has offices worldwide, including in the City of London.

The companies are predominantly involved in the sale of international/expatriate medical and travel insurance, and assistance services, with the majority of business being sold through intermediaries. The companies hold binding authority and delegated claims handling authority from its insurance company partners.

The companies currently retain the services of external compliance consultants and solicitors for regulatory updates, ad hoc advice on compliance matters and periodic compliance reviews, and would like to bring many of those services in house.

The corporate Group employs inhouse legal counsel within the Indianapolis office.

What does the job involve?

  • Oversee all legal, regulatory and compliance matters relating to the companies, including the maintenance of a compliance monitoring plan, and reporting on progress to the Managing Director and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee all legal, regulatory and compliance matters relating to any branch offices of the companies.
  • In coordination with IMG’s Legal Department in the USA, devise and deliver the regulatory and compliance strategy for the business, including an understanding of how we deliver our insurance products on a direct and intermediated basis internationally.
  • Maintain a professional and credible profile with senior stakeholders in the Group, providing the central point of contact for advice and assistance on all legal and regulatory matters affecting the UK companies.
  • Supervise the compliance resources of the Group to ensure appropriate regulatory controls are in place at any given time.
  • Undertake regulatory and compliance projects - e.g. introducing new systems/procedures, understanding the implications of new regulations, reviewing existing policies & procedures.
  • Undertake and lead regulatory and compliance reviews on the business.
  • Oversee and manage relationship with the regulators.
  • Oversee and manage the compliance relationship with our insurers and support audit requirements of the Group.
  • Devise and oversee the Group Corporate Governance Policy across all the UK regulated companies.
  • Implement and drive compliance change.
  • Coordinate with IMG’s General Counsel and Director of Compliance in the USA as appropriate.

Your skills to success.

  • Licensed by SRA as a solicitor authorized to practice law in England and Wales
  • Extensive knowledge of the UK’s insurance regulatory framework - experience of working within the Lloyd’s Insurance sector, from either a Broking or Underwriting background a plus.
  • Previous dealings with the FCA/FSA in respect of insurance.
  • Ability to understand commercial business dynamics and articulate regulatory risks to the business managers for commercial decisions.
  • An appreciation of the regulatory challenges of trading with brokers and clients based outside the UK.
  • Proactive approach: this person must be able to engage with a dynamic business to drive and deliver regulatory best practice.
  • Team player with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure to tight timelines and without direct supervision.
  • Organised and methodical.
  • Excellent business analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and in writing.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • IT literate.
