 Salary: £39,748 to £44,166 per annum (dependent on skills and experience). A Specialist Allowance of up to £4000 per annum is also available for this role.

The Scientific Computing Department (SCD) is recruiting for computational scientists in imaging to join the tomography team. We are looking for candidates with a strong background in physics, mathematics, or computer science to contribute to the development of methods and data analysis tools for computed tomography (CT).
The role is based in a multidisciplinary environment, and you will work alongside software developers, mathematicians, image analysis specialist and experimentalists to design, develop and enhance a suite of high-end image analysis and visualization software and technologies on variety of projects supporting supporting the ISIS Neutron and Muon Source (ISIS), Diamond Light Source (DLS), the Central Laser Facility (CLF) and the wider UK CT community. Example projects include the development of suitable Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) and data processing tools of the CT pipeline for the Extreme Photonic Application Centre (EPAC); the study of image reconstruction methods to increase the quality and level of information that can be extracted by CT with the use of model based image reconstruction with ISIS; the development of quantitative data analysis tools, such as digital volume correlation (DVC) with DLS.
The post is an exciting opportunity for a suitable candidate with good analytical skills and strong software development capabilities to adapt and expand their expertise in the field of tomographic imaging.
 SCD is uniquely placed in close proximity facilities with tomographic imaging capabilities, such as the UK national synchrotron DLS, neutron tomography beamline at ISIS/IMAT, the EPAC being built by CLF providing candidates with access to some of the most forward-thinking technology in the UK.
This post will be hybrid working, with a base either at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory in Oxfordshire or at Daresbury Laboratory in Warrington, Cheshire. The appointment will depend on the qualifications and experience of the candidate.
List of Duties / Work Programme / Responsibilities:
 Depending on your skills, your duties will include:
 Develop, optimise and deploy methods for the tomographic imaging pipeline, e.g. reconstruction, post-processing, visualisation.
 Participate in the processes of software design and development for implementing and testing scientific methods, using the best software sustainability practices
 Take responsibility for a particular research area of the team activity, mostly related to the development and deployment of novel tomographic image reconstruction methods
 Drive tools development and integration in this area
 Develop an independent profile in the community, and pro-actively collaborate with users in their research projects
 Publish your own research and methods development as appropriate
 Develop and optimize image analysis software on HPC (GPU and CPU)
 Keep up-to-date with developments of new and existing tools and progress of the field
 Develop suitable interfaces to tools that aid usability and promote in the research community
 Support code porting, typically from Matlab to Python, and plugin development.
Essential:
 Postgraduate degree (MSc, PhD, etc) in a relevant STEM subject, or equivalent experience along with proven experience in CT Imaging
 Ability to analyse data with a systematic and analytical approach,
 Ability to develop methods and solve problems with minimal supervision and
 The ability and confidence to relay & exchange technical information with people from a variety of backgrounds in a variety of forms
 Demonstrable experience of working with drive, determination, ownership and responsibility
 Proven confidence with programming, e.g. with Python
